Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the AI symbol detection? +
It depends on two things: how close your symbols are to the ones the model was trained on, and the state of the sheet. We do not publish a single accuracy figure, because one number averaged across every drawing office would tell you nothing about yours — and we would rather you measured it than believed it. Every detection comes back boxed and scored on the annotated sheet, so checking a page against the drawing takes a couple of minutes. If the stock model misses your symbols, train it on your own drawings.
What file formats do you support? +
PDF, including multi-page plan sets, plus JPG, PNG, TIFF and BMP. Vector PDFs — plotted straight out of CAD or Revit — give the best results, and they are the only ones circuit tracing can read. Scans work for symbol detection; 300–400 DPI is the useful range. DWG and DXF are not read directly: plot them to PDF first.
Can I train the AI on my company's custom symbols? +
Yes. Professional and Enterprise plans include custom symbol training: label examples of your symbols on your own drawings and the model learns them. How many examples you need, and how long training runs, depends on how distinctive the symbol is and how many classes you are adding — a few dozen examples per symbol is a sensible starting point.
How does MEPdetect integrate with my existing workflow? +
Through files and an API, not a plug-in. The Excel and CSV exports are plain tables — symbol, count, coordinates, confidence — so they import into whatever you estimate in. There is no direct plug-in for Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, Revit or AutoCAD today; if you need one, the REST API is documented and open, and that is the way to build it.
What does circuit tracing actually do? +
On a vector PDF it reads the drawing's own geometry instead of the pixels: it works out which pen the conductors are plotted with, follows each run, marks the junction nodes, finds the homerun arrowheads and reads the panel-circuit designation written beside them. Devices on a run are grouped into a circuit, and circuits carrying the same designation on different sheets are matched up. You get a netlist CSV and a traced overlay image. Sheets that draw no wiring and tag each device with its circuit instead — typical Revit output — are read from those tags. Grouping devices onto a circuit needs the symbols detected first, so that part is only as good as the model is on your drawings.
What happens when the trial ends? +
The Basic plan is free and needs no card at all. The Professional trial runs for 14 days through Stripe Checkout, which does take a card up front, and the subscription starts automatically at the end of the trial unless you cancel first. Cancel any time during those 14 days from your dashboard and you are not charged.
Is my project data secure and private? +
Traffic is encrypted with TLS, passwords are stored only as hashes, and access to the servers is limited to the people who run the service. You keep full ownership of everything you upload and everything we produce from it, and we never use your drawings to train models for anyone else. Two things we will not overstate: stored files are not encrypted at rest in the current deployment, and we are not SOC 2 audited. If either is a procurement requirement, Enterprise can run on your own infrastructure so the drawings never leave your network — or contact us and we will tell you exactly where we stand.
